Bahram Shah, sultan Mu'izz al-Din

Bahram Shah, sultan Mu'izz al-Din
(?-1242)
After Raziya Sultan's overthrow at the hands of rebelling nobles, Iltutmish's son Bahram was raised to the throne with the title Mu'izz al-Din in 1240, while the administration came to be run by his viceroy (na'ib), Malik Ikhtiyar al-Din Aitegin. Bahram, not reconciled with this arrangement, had Aitegin assassinated. The next year (1241), a conspiracy was hatched by leading nobles to overthrow the new sultan but proved abortive and led to the removal of the suspected conspirators from the important positions they were occupying. Badr al-Din Sanqar Rumi, the amir-i hajib implicated in this conspiracy, was executed. In December 1241, Lahore was occupied by the Mongols. During the expedition launched to recover Lahore, one of the Tajik nobles, Khwaja Muhazzab al-Din, conspired to provoke the nobles to revolt en masse. The rebels occupied Delhi and killed Bahram.
